Anamata Diploma in Applied Maori Health Coexisting Disorders Level 6
This one year full-time Mental Health and Addictions qualification underpinned by Maori philosophy and clinical practise, is targeted at people working in the health sector needing a specialist qualification.
Centrally located in Rotorua (direct flights available from Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland), the training is delivered three days per month during the academic year. Students are required to meet set hours for clinical practise, tutorial tasks, assignments and research as part of the course requirements.

University of Auckland offers Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma courses in Health Sciences, specialising in Alcohol and Drug Studies, and Masters and Doctorate level studies in these field. For those who are interested in doing only specific courses relevant to their work, these could be taken up individually for a Certificate of Proficiency. This certificate is open to professionals in the field, who may not have a formal undergraduate degree.

Te Taketake (Moana House Training Institute)
A 2 year level 6 Qualification
The Moana House Training Institute is pleased to offer Te Taketake, a two year Diploma in Applied Addictions Counselling.

This diploma combines Te Aka and Te Rea with the addition of Te Hauhakenga, practical work and Competencies the training will take place on seven (7) three day workshops throughout the year. Some of the teaching will be done together, but most of it will take place in separate streams according to the year of study you are in.
On successful completion of the course and the meeting of all requirements, students will be eligible to apply to DAPAANZ for recognition of 12 Competencies towards their registration as DAPAANZ Registered Practitioners.

We developed the Pacific nations Competency after a lengthy consultation period with Pacific Nations Communities in Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin. We plan to offer this again this year, please see our calendar list for dates.
As always, these waananga are taught in a bicultural noho marae setting and will take place in Dunedin on the following dates in 2008

Tutors are Paraire Huata, Claire Aitken, and Sean Manning. They will be joined by guest presenters in specialised topics at times throughout your training.
You will need to commit to attending all waananga, and to spending at least 10 hours per week for study, assignments, and reading. A caseload, or access to clients, is necessary, as the course is practice focused.
