He Hikoi Mātūtū – A documentary on Aotearoa’s Inaugural Addiction Recovery Walk
On 7 December 2019 over 1,000 people in recovery from addiction, their whānau and the addiction workforce took to the streets of Auckland to tackle stigma associated with addiction and to celebrate recovery.
We hear a lot about the health and social ills associated with addiction but not enough about the people, families, wider whānau and communities who are positively affected by recovery. People in recovery are courageous and become exemplary members of society, although research has shown that the public still holds a dim view of these people. It takes affirmative action to address this misconception.
This inspiring documentary captures the highlights of this remarkable event.
